AND: I've been trying to update this website:
Professional & Community resumes, Saxophone page, a new Media coverage page
~ OLD CONTENT ~
This new website was first published in Summer 2021, as a first draft, and went relatively unattended thereafter due to family illness. Finally in 2026, I am updating it a little bit!March 2026
let's fight potential budget cuts to school music (e.g. middle school jazz & choir!) in SD61
learn about the recommendation for Amalgamation of Saanich & Victoria
victoriasaanich.ca - the Citizens' Assembly (objective unbiased deliberation body)
ONLINE CHANNELS - I'm trying to move away from large corporate unaccountable and predatory social media platforms: I've all-but-deleted X in favour of Bluesky, and I'm interested in going back to Web 2.0 style technologies, not fed by and feeding the nefarious algorithm. Be the change you want to see in the world. I want to see less divisive rhetoric, fewer echochambers, and never my kids consuming AI slop or doomscrolling through brainrot.
ABOUT ME ON THE WEB:
I've had a lot of different websites and monikers over the years, going all the way back to MSN, GeoCities and BlogSpot.
ABOUT ME
I'm a busy father-of-three who loves jazz, old skool nintendo, JRRTolkien, podcasts and my family.
I have been an overly-involved community volunteer, volleyball player/coach; saxophone player/teacher, association member, society board director, executive officer, committee chair; youth sports parent, carpool chauffeur, fundraiser; and sometimes politician.
I'm a cylist (family of five with 5 bikes, 1 e-cargo-bike and 1 electric vehicle) which kind of goes hand-in-hand with being an SFU-city-program educated green transportation expert.
I'm a Chemistry-major/History-minor, B Sc '07 from UBC Science who planned to be a school teacher, but instead found my way into managing on-campus student housing (residence life) at UVic and then a 15-year career in the BC Public Service, starting in the Justice Ministries but mostly serving in the once-notorious Climate Action Secretariat (may she rest in peace). Today I am an independent urban sustainability consultant focussed on low-carbon community planning with an ISO-14001 certification in GHG Accounting. You can find me on LinkedIn promoting the work my firm does with BOMA BC on the Greater Victoria 2030 District. I'm an associate with CHRM Consulting.
Lately (2025)
I ran for Saanich Council in the past, and lots of folks are asking if I will again, or run for School Board instead. Never say never (even if you told yourself "never again" in the recent past).*
I've pivotted from a lot of Saanich community/politics involvement to things closer to my kids' lives.
Acting Treasurer of the VCPAC (umbrella parent organisation for all Parent Advisory Committees in SD61).
Coaching grade 7 boys volleyball. Relentless fundraising (especially youth sports). Served on my local Little League association board of directors.
MARCH 2026: Media Interviews (CHEK, CFAX, CTV) supporting music-parent groups trying to stop budget cuts to middle school jazz & choir.
President of the Capital Region Municipal Amalgamation Society (Vote YES!)
*So this will already consume much of my "political" bandwidth this summer, whilst travelling across the province for baseball and softball tournaments, AND re-entering experiencing the joys of parenting a toddler again.
